Finley Elementary School made UISD news in April 2025 when it hosted its first-ever Autism Fest, a school-wide celebration that closed out Autism Awareness Month with inclusive activities and community involvement. The event was highlighted by the district as one of the most visible community-facing initiatives held at any UISD elementary that semester. Also notable in Finley's community story: in a tribute to the late school custodian Benjamin Valdez, Coach Hector Luna of a sister school led his basketball team in a cheer honoring Valdez's memory, underscoring the deep personal connections that run through UISD's elementary community.
