Being Updated
Whidby Elementary is doing well as part of the Houston ISD improvements. Now, all students walk into a school that meets or exceeds state standards. The school recently changed its Parents' Right to Know notifications, which shows that it is honest and wants to work with families. Also, students on campus are using new 21st-century technology in all of their core classes.
Q1. How has the big change in academics at Whidby El changed how its students learn every day?
Ans. Students now have a very structured, A-rated environment that puts individual growth first and makes sure that every child meets state standards.
Q2. Does Whidby El offer any specific digital literacy training for its primary-grade students who are using new technology?
Ans. We have started "Tech Tuesdays," where students learn important skills for using the internet and staying safe online to get ready for a world that is always connected.
Q3. What kinds of "Parents' Right to Know" notices does Whidby El send out to make sure that local families know what's going on?
Ans. We keep our parents fully informed partners in their child's education by giving them regular updates on teacher qualifications and how well the campus is doing.
Q4. What does Whidby El do to make sure that its student-centered environment stays a safe and caring place for all kids?
Ans. We have a "Positive Peer" system in place where students get rewards for being nice to each other and helping each other during the day.
Q5. Are there any special programs at Whidby El for students who are very interested in health or medical sciences?
Ans There is a "Junior Medics" club on our campus that teaches students about basic human biology and how important it is to live a healthy life.
