Being Updated
Shadowbriar Elementary is still a great school because it is a STEAM Magnet school. They recently worked with local business leaders to give students hands-on experience in environmental science and engineering. The daily "WIN Time" (What I Need) blocks on campus are going very well. They help each student with their schoolwork in a way that is unique to them.
Q1. What kinds of robotics kits or engineering tools are used in the Shadowbriar El STEAM labs?
Ans. Students learn the basics of mechanical engineering and logic-based programming early on by using LEGO Education kits and Bee-Bots.
Q2. Are there any special art classes at Shadowbriar El that use technology, like digital graphic design?
Ans. Our "Art-Tech" elective lets kids in upper elementary school use tablets and styluses to make their own digital drawings and animations.
Q3. How often do students at Shadowbriar El go on trips to local science museums or space centers?
Ans. Every grade level goes on at least two STEAM trips outside of school each year to connect what they learn in class with what they do in the real world.
Q4. Are there any parent workshops at Shadowbriar El that teach families how to help their kids learn STEAM at home?
Ans. We have "Family Maker Nights" where parents learn how to do science experiments with their kids using everyday things around the house.
Q5. Is there a school counselor at Shadowbriar El who helps students deal with the social pressures that come with being in a magnet program?
Ans. Yes, our counselor offers both individual and group sessions to help students become more resilient and keep their schoolwork in balance.
