Being Updated
Sam Houston Elementary (Galena Park ISD) is following the new Texas law on personal devices (HB1481) very closely so that students can pay attention to their lessons without being distracted by electronics. The school recently held its "Great Kindness Challenge" and still gives out rewards for perfect attendance, like a "Moon Jump" party for students who are always on time.
Q1. How can parents join the Sam Houston El site-based decision-making committee this year?
Ans. Parents who are interested can apply through the principal's office to help review campus goals and give important feedback from the community.
Q2. Does Sam Houston El have a "Grandparents Day" or other events that are just for extended family members to come to?
Ans. To honor the important role that extended family plays in our students' education, we hold a Grandparents Breakfast every year.
Q3. How often do safety drills take place at Sam Houston El to make sure students are ready for emergencies?
Ans. We hold monthly fire and lockdown drills to make sure that all of our students and staff know exactly what to do.
Q4. Does Sam Houston El have any music or band programs for kids in fourth and fifth grades?
Ans. Every week, fifth-grade students can join the choir or learn the basics of percussion during their fine arts rotations.
Q5. Is there a special area at Sam Houston El for lost jackets and water bottles that students have left behind?
Ans. Yes, there is a lost and found bin near the cafeteria entrance that students and parents can check every day.
