Recently, Heflin Elementary School got a lot of praise for how quickly its students were learning and how interested they were in core subjects. The campus made learning fun by having a successful "Family STEAM Night" where kids and parents worked on engineering projects together. Staff members are still committed to making sure that every student feels both supported and challenged in their daily studies.
Q1. What is the historical significance of the name Heflin El?
Ans. Heflin El was started in 1982 and named after Talmadge Heflin, who used to be a member of the Alief school board and a Texas Representative.
Q2. Do students at Heflin El have access to any specific mental health or wellness resources?
Ans. Heflin El has a lot of counseling resources, such as yoga, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, to help students' social and emotional health.
Q3. How does Heflin El help students who are Gifted and Talented (GT)?
Ans. To give students unique learning experiences and compact the curriculum, teachers at Heflin El get 30 hours of initial GT training.
Q4. How does the student-teacher ratio at Heflin El compare to that of other schools?
Ans. Heflin El has a student-teacher ratio of 11.1, which is better than the district average. This means that students can get more personalized instruction.
