Blackshear Elementary is still a "Pride of Third Ward" because it gets families involved in important ways and makes the community stronger. The school is now 135 years old. This was a big deal that brought together current students and alumni from all over the world to celebrate the school's long history. Even though the campus is busy, students can still grow because the culture is supportive and they get help one-on-one.
Q1. Are there any special magnet programs for students at Blackshear Elementary?
Ans. There is a Montessori Magnet program at Blackshear Elementary that encourages students of all ages to learn on their own and discover things through hands-on activities.
Q2. What is the official school mascot for Blackshear Elementary School?
Ans. The Hornet is the school's official mascot. It stands for a sting of excellence and a very strong sense of community.
Q3. Is there a list of school supplies that new students at Blackshear Elementary need?
Ans. Yes, every August the school puts out a detailed supply list for each grade level on its official website for families.
Q4. Does Blackshear Elementary have a separate parent-teacher organization?
Ans. The school has a busy PTO that plans events in the community and helps with different classroom enrichment projects all year long.
Q5. What do car riders at Blackshear Elementary have to do when they get there?
Ans. Every school morning at 7.30 AM, parents must use the drop-off lane on Holman Street.
