Being Updated
Johnson Elementary School's 10/10 rating and its #881 Texas ranking remained intact for the 2025-26 school year. This solidified its status as one of the top two elementary campuses within Forney ISD. The school's esports program, led by coordinator Kelly Schmitz, participated in the district's fall and spring competition cycles. Forney ISD also announced expanded choice academies for the 2025-26 school year, giving Johnson's graduating 4th graders more defined academic track options as they move into the intermediate level at Rhea.
Q1. Why does Johnson Elementary have a 10/10 GreatSchools rating?
Ans. Johnson Elementary's 66% math and 65% reading proficiency are genuinely high numbers for a Texas public elementary school. The school has a 14:1 student-teacher ratio, only 30% economically disadvantaged students, and a long history of consistent performance at this location in Forney's northeastern residential area. The 10/10 rating reflects all of that combined, not just one year's test results.
Q2. Does Johnson Elementary have a GATE program?
Ans. Johnson Elementary runs a Gifted and Talented program through Forney ISD. The school's consistently strong test scores mean GT-referred students are working in an environment where advanced learners are well-supported across the grade levels. Talk to your child's teacher or call (469) 762-4325 to start the referral process in the fall.
Q3. What is the esports program like at Johnson Elementary?
Ans. Johnson Elementary participates in Forney ISD's elementary esports program with Kelly Schmitz as the school coordinator.
Q4. How does Johnson Elementary support student well-being beyond academics?
Ans. Johnson Elementary has a dedicated school counselor on staff who handles social-emotional support alongside academic guidance. The school uses PBIS-aligned behavior practices consistent with Forney ISD's district-wide approach. Parent reviews describe a campus where staff are genuinely visible and responsive, not just present.
Q5. What is the feeder pattern for Johnson Elementary students?
Ans. Johnson Elementary students continue to Rhea Intermediate, then to Warren Middle School, and on to Forney High School. Given Johnson's rural northeastern location along Walnut Lane, the feeder pathway runs through the same eastern Forney ISD cluster. Families should confirm current assignments directly with the school at enrollment.
