The Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary School is one of those that is expected to benefit from a plan to upgrade its surrounding school zone, through a partnership with a local developer. El Paso County has approved a donation from Moreno Cardenas Inc. to fund upgrades such as improved school zone flashers, a longer median on Paseo del Este, and a left turn lane. These upgrades, which are now in the engineering design phase, were described by officials in the district and El Paso County as a move to ensure student safety in the increasingly developing areas surrounding the campus.
