A relatively recent milestone for Eddie Ruth Lagway Elementary came when the campus officially opened to students in August 2021 as part of a $23.5 million project by Willis Independent School District. The two-story, 101,930-square-foot school was built to accommodate up to 850 students and helped relieve crowding at other nearby elementary campuses. The school was named in honor of longtime community member and former school board trustee Eddie Ruth Lagway, recognizing her years of service to local education.
