Mina Elementary entered 2025-26 as BISD's highest-performing elementary campus in reading, with Principal Kevin Hans leading the school through its second year following the 2024 ribbon-cutting that marked the completion of a new two-story front entry building and playground under the district's 2021 bond. BISD's Communications Department earned seven Star Awards from TSPRA at its spring 2026 conference, a recognition that encompasses the district's full communications work, including school-level outreach that campuses like Mina rely on. The district also announced Pre-K and kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year in early 2026.

FAQ

Q1. What makes Mina Elementary the top-performing BISD campus?

Ans. Mina Elementary's 61% reading proficiency is the strongest of any BISD elementary school. That reading score holds up across multiple student subgroups, not just the school overall.

Q2. Does Mina Elementary have a GATE program?

Ans. Mina Elementary offers a Gifted and Talented program through Bastrop ISD. About 11% of students are currently in GT services. If you think your child may qualify, the assessment referral window opens each fall, and talking to their classroom teacher is the first step.

Q3. What was the 2024 renovation at Mina Elementary?

Ans. Mina Elementary received a new two-story front entry building and a new playground through BISD's 2021 bond program, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony held in January 2024.

Q4. What bilingual programs does Mina Elementary offer?

Ans. About 17% of students at Mina Elementary are in bilingual or English Language Development programs. Mina's ELL population is proportionally smaller than some other BISD campuses, which is reflected in the school's relatively stronger reading scores. BISD's ELD framework runs at Mina across all grade levels.

Q5. What community events does Mina Elementary participate in?

Ans. Mina Elementary participates in BISD's district-wide programming, including the annual state testing calendar, family engagement events, and the STARS After School Program.
