Placed in the outskirts of Parma, OH, John Muir Elementary serves 352 K–4 students and supports a culture of academics and community engagement. The boys and girls are equally matched: 51% boys and 49% girls. The diversity of the school is vital to the community, and 41% of students identify as minorities, including 12.5% Hispanic/Latino, 10.8% Black or African American, and 6.8% identified as two or more races. Economically disadvantaged students account for 63% of student enrollment. The school employs 19 full-time certified teacher positions, resulting in a student-teacher ratio of 19:1. While 47% of students are proficient in Math, 52% of students are proficient in reading. John Muir was academically ranked #1183–1577 in Ohio Elementary Schools and #6–8 in Parma City Elementary Schools. John Muir Elementary is committed to remaining a community of equity, inclusion, and foundational learning, and is one of the top-rated elementary schools in the state of Ohio.
