Columbia Elementary is one of Alabama's premier Elementary Schools that combines its academic distinction with space legacy. Columbia opened its doors in 2004 to honor the crew of the Columbia space shuttle, in deference to Madison's strong connection to space and aerospace. Columbia Elementary serves over 750 students from Pre-K to 5th grade in a caring environment providing students with the opportunity to exceed the state's achievement levels of about 65% proficiency in math & 76% proficiency in reading.
