As part of the Hawaii Department of Education, Hilo High School is a well-known public school on the Big Island that serves students in grades 9 through 12. Hilo High School recently announced that it will be working with Kyoto Tachibana High School as a sister school. This will help students from both schools learn about each other's cultures and work together during the 2025–2026 school year. The school's award-winning Viking Robotics program is still the best at getting kids interested in STEM fields in the community. It successfully hosted its annual Winter Camp Eureka, where local kids could learn about robotics hands-on. Also, students are getting ready for unique job opportunities at the upcoming Ho?ala Academy Open House, which connects current Vikings with trade careers and community partners after high school.
