Shaw Middle School's unique partnership with the Spokane Public Library was highlighted in early 2026 as a successful model for community resource sharing.
Administrators were recognized for their innovative "Global Future" curriculum, which successfully prepared the eighth-grade class for 2026 high school transitions.
Q1. How does the Shaw Middle School work with the public library?
Ans. Students can go to the public library branch that is next to the school every day to get help from professional librarians and use a lot of resources.
Q2. In the Hillyard area, does Shaw Middle School have project-based learning?
Ans. Students work on "Global Future" projects that include local Hillyard history and community development in the main curriculum.
Q3. Does Shaw Middle have any vocational or technical electives?
Ans. Career and Technical Education classes at the school give students a taste of different career paths and teach them useful skills.
Q4. How does Shaw Middle School create an environment that is open to all cultures?
Ans. Every year, the school holds festivals to honor the different backgrounds of its students. In the classroom, they also teach multicultural lessons.
Q5. Are the sports facilities at Shaw Middle School up to date?
Ans. The campus has been updated with new gyms and outdoor fields to support a wide range of student sports.
