Sunrise Valley Elementary School is a vibrant public school and one of the prominent elementary schools in Virginia. It teaches 570 students in grades PK–6. The school has very good academic results, with about 84% of students doing well in math and 86% doing well in reading. It has a student-teacher ratio of 14:1 and is ranked #37 in Fairfax County Public Schools. It has 42 full-time teachers and one full-time counselor. The school has 52% female and 48% male students in the school, and 17% of them are from low-income families. Sunrise Valley is known for its strong leadership and academic culture. Dr.MaryAnn Chung, who was nominated for "Principal of the Year" twice, was named after the school's library. The school is in the desirable Reston neighborhood, where the average home price is about $600,000.It still has a great reputation for academic excellence and student development, and many of its graduates go on to do well in school and in their careers.

Sunrise Valley Elementary School won the Virginia Purple Star School award again in 2025 for its help with military-connected students and families.
