The 2026 Region 20 Elementary Teacher of the Year award was given to Miryam Gonzalez, a dual-language pre-K teacher at Sarah King Elementary. She received the award for her hands-on practices and positive engagement with parents. The 2025 STAAR showed positive results statewide in reading and science, with North East ISD meeting or exceeding statewide averages. School districts are increasingly hiring specialists and pushing for literacy strategies due to rising rates of dyslexia and literacy concerns.
