On Earth Day, South High School partnered with Green Columbus and DHL Supply Chain to plant 40 native, large canopy shade trees across campus, addressing tree inequity on the Southside while also giving students hands-on environmental lessons. The project will improve air quality and provide shade for the neighborhood, and principal Christy Nickerson says it will have a lasting impact on both the campus and community. South’s Career and Technical Education program also exposes students to graphic design, silk screening, video editing and animation through foundational classes that combine creativity with real-world skills.
