Columbus Africentric Early College ES is still celebrating its empowerment legacy with a recent “Heritage Gala” that spotlighted student talent in music, dance and spoken word. The campus is making great progress on its new restorative justice program, which has resulted in a significant increase in student-led mediation and positive behavior. The school recently held a successful information session for prospective families highlighting the school’s unique PK-8 Afrocentric curriculum.
Q1. What separates an Africentric curriculum at this school from a traditional classroom?
Ans. Students learn about the historical and social contributions of African heritage, and often take learning off campus to interview experts in the local community.
Q2. What is “Heritage Exhibition” in Columbus Africentric Early College ES?
Ans. Students showcase their research on African history and local social justice issues in original theatrical performances and creative projects for families.
Q3. What is the purpose of the “Leadership Awards” at Columbus Africentric Early College ES? How do you use this to celebrate student growth?
Ans. The awards are given to those students that demonstrate responsibility and empathy, showing that character matters as much as achievement on campus.
Q4. Are there specific performing arts trainings for students at Columbus Africentric Early College ES?
Ans.Yes, students are involved in choral and dance ensembles that perform traditional and modern cultural performances during the school year.
Q5. What social responsibility projects are Columbus Africentric Early College ES students leading?
Ans. Students often run community awareness campaigns on topics they’ve studied, such as clean water or local Ohio historical preservation efforts.
