Being Updated
Cedarwood Alternative Elementary School is currently featuring the high energy “Reading Buddies” program where older students come down to primary classrooms weekly to read and spread the love of reading. Students recently participated in the school’s successful “Cedarwood Math Carnival” where they played interactive games to build foundational numeracy skills in a fun environment. Families have also lauded the school’s “Open Door” communication policy, which has strengthened the bond between staff and parents in the community.
Q1. How does Cedarwood Alternative Elementary School celebrate students’ academic milestones and growth each marking period?
Ans. We have “Star Student” assemblies in which we invite families to come and watch their children receive awards for effort and academic excellence quarterly.
Q2. Does Cedarwood Alternative Elementary School offer literacy supports for “Emerging Bilinguals”?
Ans. Our campus has a “Language Lab” where students receive daily targeted small group support to build academic vocabulary and reading fluency for success.
Q3. What hands-on STEM engineering challenges are Cedarwood Alternative students working on this year?
Ans. Students work in teams to build working bridges and solar-powered cars, bringing the excitement of complex scientific theories into the classroom as projects for learning.
Q4. How will Cedarwood Alternative families know about their child’s current research projects?
Ans. Teachers use digital portfolios to share student work and project updates so parents can have a daily, real-time view of the learning process.
Q5. Are parents at Cedarwood Alternative Elementary School able to volunteer with the “Library Friends”?
Ans. Yes, we are always happy to have parents join our library committee to help organize seasonal reading events and book giveaways to students.
