Being Updated
Zeman Elementary School is one of five Lincoln Public Schools selected to pilot a new K–5 math curriculum beginning in the 2025–26 school year. The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications and stronger conceptual understanding. Teachers and students will provide feedback to help guide future adoption across the district.
Q1. How does Zeman help students find relationships in simple coordinate grids?
Ans. Students use beginner grids with labeled rows and columns to find things and learn how to record positions.
Q2. How does the school get kids to start learning about how liquids stack up based on density?
Ans. Students learn about differences in density by watching safe liquids in the classroom and seeing how some float above others.
Q3. What do students do to help each other during poetry-sharing circles?
Ans. Students practice their reading voices, take turns reading short poems, and listen respectfully while their classmates do the same.
Q4. How does Zeman assist students in distinguishing between natural and human-caused environmental changes?
Ans. Teachers use examples like erosion and construction to help students see how environments change for different reasons.
Q5. In what ways does the school help students see math patterns in the real world?
Ans. Students look for things that are arranged in the same way over and over again, like tiles, fence sections, or classroom objects, to help them connect patterns to real life.
