Being Updated
Hill Elementary School staff recently took part in The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. Their participation marked the campaign’s 50th anniversary. The effort allowed staff to give back to the community in a meaningful way.
Q1. How does Hill help students get the idea of point of view?
Ans. Students learn how perspective affects understanding by comparing how different characters might see the same event.
Q2. What does the school do to encourage kids to start testing buoyancy early?
Ans. Students test things in the classroom by putting them in water to see which ones float and which ones sink. Then they talk about what they see.
Q3. What routines do students use to help them switch between tasks they do alone and tasks they do with a partner?
Ans. Students use a signal system to switch modes while keeping the noise level down.
Q4: How does Hill help students locate context clues for words they don't know?
Ans. Teachers show students how to use surrounding sentences to figure out what they mean, and then students practice with short passages.
Q5. How does the school help with early assessments of story endings?
Ans. Students talk about whether the ending solves the problem and how it fits with what happened before, which helps them understand.
