Being Updated
Elliott Elementary School students participated in the downtown “What Moves You?” mural project in Lincoln. Guest artist Angelica Tapia taught the Owls printmaking techniques as part of the experience. Dozens of their hand-printed birds will appear in a mural on the MusicBox recording building at 14th and N streets.
Q1. How does Elliott help students get better at figuring out what a story is really about?
Ans. Teachers help students figure out what the author is trying to say by having them seek repeated ideas, lessons about characters, and outcomes.
Q2. How does the school teach students to compare sound sources?
Ans. Students look at how different things make sound and group them by how similar their pitch or vibration is.
Q3. How does Elliott set up routines for moving through quiet reading areas?
Ans. Students pick or are given reading spots and follow rules about how to move around that help them read in a calm, focused way.
Q4. What methods help students learn about changes that can and can't be undone?
Ans. Students test changes like melting and burning to see which ones can be undone and which ones can't.
Q5: How does Elliott show people how to use glossaries for the first time?
Ans. Students work on finding bolded words and reading glossary definitions to learn more about academic vocabulary.
