Being Updated
Cavett Elementary School is one of five schools selected by Lincoln Public Schools to pilot a new K–5 math curriculum. The pilot began in June 2025 and is being used to test updated instructional materials and strategies. Teachers and students are providing feedback to help shape future districtwide adoption.
Q1. How does Cavett introduce the idea of comparing distances using landmarks?
Ans. Students use landmarks from school that they know well to talk about which places are closer or farther away. This helps them learn about space.
Q2. How does the school support early recognition of story problem key details?
Ans. Teachers help students underline or circle important numbers and words to help them understand what the problem is asking.
Q3. What routines help students manage art-supply distribution?
Ans. Cavett uses color-coded supply trays and return spots so materials stay organized during creative activities.
Q4. How does Cavett teach students to observe light reflections?
Ans. Students use mirrors and shiny objects to see how light bounces, noting changes in direction during science lessons.
Q5. How does the school promote effective partner discussion roles?
Ans. Students alternate between speaker and listener roles, practicing sharing ideas and restating a partner’s response.
