Fourth grade teacher Alonna Soward-Puryear was named the 2026 Maryland Teacher of the Year, making her the first educator from Monocacy Elementary to receive this recognition. This honor follows her selection as the 2025-26 Frederick County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
Q1. Do Monocacy Elementary School kids have programs that help them learn more after school?
Ans. Yes, the school has clubs for reading, art, and STEM, as well as seasonal programs to keep kids busy when they're not in class.
Q2: How does Monocacy Elementary help kids learn English?
Ans. The goal of small-group lessons, pull-out sessions, and language development programs for ELL students is to help them get better at English.
Q3. Does Monocacy Elementary School want families to help out?
Ans. Families can help their kids learn by going to events at school, workshops, PTA activities, and places where they can volunteer.

Ans. Structured playtime, health education classes, mindfulness exercises, and counselling are all parts of wellness programs that help with social and emotional needs.
