Moore Elementary School is a public school in Des Moines, Iowa, for kids in grades K–5. The school has about 298 students and a student-teacher ratio of about 12:1, which means that each student gets more individual attention. About 66% of the students are from minority groups, such as Black, Hispanic, Asian, and multiracial students. A lot of students (about 64 percent) are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, which shows that they are in a relatively high level of economic need. The school spends about $16,099 on each student, which comes from federal, state, and local funds. About 45–49 percent of students are good at math and about 50–54 percent are good at English/language arts. These are both below the state averages for these subjects. Moore Elementary's test scores put it in the bottom half of Iowa schools. Moore Elementary doesn't focus on magnet or charter programs, but it is part of the Des Moines Independent Community School District, which is good because it promotes equal access to education and community involvement. People have said that the school is known for having a diverse student body and a dedication to meeting the needs of a population with a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. In general, Moore Elementary School is a safe, welcoming place to learn with a lot of room to grow. The school is not doing as well academically as the average school in the state, but the small class sizes and high funding per student suggest that there is room for targeted support and improvement.
