See top schools in Des MoinesLovejoy Elementary School is a public school in Des Moines, Iowa, with about 412 students in grades K–5. Lovejoy has fewer students per teacher than most schools, with about 13 students for every teacher. There are 33% Hispanic students, 27% Black students, 22% White students, and 11% Asian students. About 78% of the students are from groups that are not very common, and about 82% can get lunch for free or at a low cost. Lovejoy Elementary students aren't very good at math or reading/ELA. A lot fewer than the average in Iowa, only 35 to 39 percent of them meet the standards. The school gets a lot of money; it costs about $17,256 per student. Lovejoy doesn't seem like a specialized magnet or charter school, but it is a Title I school. The staff says they want to help the whole child, both in school and in life. The school is in a working-class part of Des Moines and is known for being involved in the community and helping students who need it with money. In short, Lovejoy Elementary School is a public K–5 school with a lot of different students and good funding. It doesn't do as well on tests as the state does, but it could do even better if it got more help because it has a low student-teacher ratio and strong ties to the community.

Being Updated
The Des Moines Public Schools, which includes Lovejoy Elementary School, recently got a $265 million bond referendum approved by voters. The community was very supportive. The money will help pay for the district's "Reimagining Education" plan, which includes improving facilities, expanding full-day preschool, and starting new STEM, arts, and career-technical programs. The estimated tax effect on a typical $200,000 home is about $188 a year. This project is expected to improve the learning spaces and resources for all students in the district, including those at Lovejoy Elementary.
