Hubbell Elementary School is a public school in Des Moines, Iowa, that teaches kids in grades K–5. The school has about 380 to 390 students and 26 full-time teachers, which means there is about one teacher for every 15 students. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB/PYP) at Hubbell Elementary focuses on inquiry, working together, and learning about the world. There are also extra activities like a garden club, a Lego club, a band, an orchestra, a chorus, a theater, dance, and art. About 61% of the students are White, 16% are Black, 13% are Hispanic, and the rest are from other racial groups. About 40% of students take part in the free or reduced-price lunch program, which shows that they have a moderate level of financial need. According to state tests, about 60% of students are good at math and about 68% are good at reading and English language arts (ELA). The school spends about $14,542 on each student. Hubbell Elementary is in the Waveland Park neighborhood and is known for getting involved in the community and helping students do better in school. The school's IB curriculum and wide range of extracurricular activities suggest that it has a lot of room to grow, even though test scores are slightly below average.
