Hoyt has launched a new Student Leadership Council for the 2026 spring semester to give students a direct voice. Extensive facility remodeling and repairs are scheduled to begin this year as part of equitable access efforts. The school is strengthening community outreach programs to connect students with Des Moines-based service projects.
Q1. What is the "Hawk Pride" program at Hoyt Middle School?
Ans. Hawk Pride is the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. It rewards students for being safe, responsible, and polite.
Q2. Are there any special programs at Hoyt Middle School for students who want to learn about cooking?
Ans. Yes, Family and Consumer Science (FCS) classes are part of the 2026 elective rotation and teach students how to cook, eat healthy, and stay safe with food.
Q3. How can parents of students at Hoyt Middle School join the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)?
Ans. During the fall registration period, parents can sign up for the PTO. They can also go to monthly evening meetings at the school to help plan student events and fundraisers.
Q4. Do students at Hoyt Middle School have the option of going to summer school?
Ans. The Des Moines district usually has a "Middle School Summer Seminar" for credit recovery or academic enrichment. All Hoyt students who meet the requirements can take part.
Q5. What sports can 8th-grade boys at Hoyt Middle School play in the fall?
Ans. 8th-grade boys can play soccer, football, and cross country in the fall, which starts in late August.
