Kalihi Elementary School’s “Walking School Bus” program has gained positive attention in local news for improving student attendance and family engagement. The initiative offers a safe, social, and free way for students to walk to school each morning. Principal John Hamilton, a school counselor, and JPO Kojak Jack actively participate to support the effort.
Q1. How does Kalihi help students learn about the differences between producers and consumers in ecosystems?
Ans. Students look at food-chain diagrams that show how plants make their own food and how animals get energy from plants.

Ans. To help students understand clear cause-and-effect relationships, teachers stress words like "since" and "therefore."
Q3. What routines help students stay safe in big, open areas on campus?
Ans. Students stay within sight of staff, follow the marked walkways, and meet at the assigned markers.

Ans. Students look at how myths and nonfiction differ by comparing magical or exaggerated parts of myths with real facts.
