Hahaione Elementary School announced that kindergarten and Japanese dual-language teacher Kylie Nakano received the 2025 Milken Educators of Hawai?i “Teacher of Promise” award in April 2025. The honor included a $4,000 cash prize to support her professional development. The recognition highlights her strong early-career impact and commitment to students.
Q1. How does Hahaione help students learn about how waves change the shape of the shore?
Ans. Students study diagrams and models that show how waves hitting the coast can smooth or change the land.
Q2: How does the school help kids get better at comparing story themes early on?
Ans. Teachers help students find big ideas like friendship or responsibility and look at how different stories show them.
Q3. What do students do to help them get in and out of the computer lab?
Ans. To keep lab time organized and efficient, students follow the seating charts, login steps, and shutdown procedures that are given to them.
Q4. How does Hahaione help students find adaptations in marine animals?
Ans. Students look at things like fins, shells, and camouflage to learn how marine animals live in their habitats.
Q5. How does the school get kids started with directional grid mapping?
Ans. Students use coordinates like A3 or B2 to find things and learn about spatial placement on simple grids.
