Latest News

Big celebrations are sweeping through Jackson Elementary School after the Georgia Department of Education officially named the campus a Distinguished School, placing it in the top 5% statewide for academic growth. The school community is also welcoming Dr. Molly McAuliffe as she takes over the principal leadership role. To welcome the youngest neighborhood kids, the school is gearing up for its annual Kinder Cub Camp, designed to help rising kindergarteners feel completely at home in the classroom before day one.

FAQ

Q1. What do the kids do for recess when it is raining or too cold outside?

Ans. They just stay in their classrooms and play. Teachers will usually let them play board games, draw, build with blocks, or put on a dance video on the smartboard so they can move around.

Q2. Can I bring my child a fast-food meal for lunch if I drop it off at the office?

Ans. No, the school doesn't allow parents to bring in restaurant bags or sodas into the cafeteria. If your child leaves their lunchbox at home, they can just get a hot lunch from the school cafeteria line.

Q3. Is there a night where parents can come do science projects with their kids?

Ans. Yes, the school throws a family STEM night every spring. You can bring the whole family to walk through different classrooms and try out quick hands-on science experiments and building projects together.

Q4. What is the best way to buy a school yearbook?

Ans. Order forms go home early in the winter, and sales run online through the school's photography vendor link. It is best to buy early because the school only orders a limited number of extra copies for May.

Q5. My child is struggling with math. Does the school offer extra tutoring?

Ans. Talk directly with your child's teacher. The school often has targeted early-morning intervention groups or remedial learning clubs that meet before regular classes start to help kids catch up.
