Latest News

A brand-new era of leadership is underway at Gwin Oaks Elementary School as Principal Wendy C. McDonald officially takes the reins of the campus! The building community is also celebrating its impressive state-level recognition, earning the prestigious Silver Award for highest performance under the statewide accountability system. To keep kids motivated over the break, the library media specialist has kicked off the Gwin Oaks Elementary School Summer Reading Challenge, promising an ice cream celebration for every student who completes their reading board.

FAQ

Q1. How do I enter into the building if I need to drop something off for my child?

Ans. You have to ring the buzzer at the front doors and look into the camera to state your name and business. Once the office clicks you in, you just show your ID at the front window to obtain a visitor sticker.

Q2. Can kids still borrow library books during the summer?

Ans. The school library closes up for the summer, but your child can still read ebooks on their tablet or computer. They just need to log into the regular school portal from home to use the digital library apps.

Q3. Can fifth graders join the school safety patrol?

Ans. Yes, older students can apply to be patrol members at the start of the year. They are allowed to wear the special vests and help teachers keep the hallways safe or open car doors for younger students in the mornings.

Q4. What should I do if my child needs to take daily medication while at school?

Ans. You must bring the medication directly to the clinic worker in its original pharmacy bottle and sign an authorization form. Students are never allowed to carry pills or syrups in their backpacks.

Q5. Does the school have a lost and found area for missing jackets?

Ans. Yes, missing items are hung up on racks in the main hallway near the gym. Items that are left unclaimed at the end of each semester are donated to a local charity clothing drive.
