Being Updated
Exciting updates are coming directly from the front office as the campus celebrates fifth-grade teacher Michelle Elam for being named the official Alford Elementary Teacher of the Year! Alongside this big celebration, the school is currently welcoming its newest young learners by keeping the kindergarten registration portal open for area households. To keep the reading momentum going strong between school terms, Alford Elementary is also teaming up with the Gwinnett County Public Library to challenge kids to hit major milestones in this year's summer reading program.
Q1. Can parents drop off birthday treats for their child’s classroom at Alford Elementary?
Ans. Yes, as long as they are store-bought. Parents are welcome to bring individually wrapped snacks or cookies to the front counter. The office cannot accept home-baked foods or large cakes that need to be cut.
Q2. How does Alford Elementary handle student cell phones during the day?
Ans. Students may bring phones for after-school use, but they must remain turned off and kept completely inside their backpacks throughout the entire school day.
Q3. How do parents stay in touch with teachers at Alford Elementary?
Ans. The school uses ParentSquare. Families can look for an email newsletter every Friday afternoon with key dates and events, and they can also log in to message teachers and club sponsors directly.
Q4. Can students bring their laptops or tablets to use at Alford Elementary?
Ans. There is no need to bring personal devices. The school assigns a dedicated Chromebook to every single student on the roster for classroom assignments.
Q5. What happens if a student forgets their lunch at home?
Ans. The cafeteria staff will ensure that the child receives a standard school lunch so they don't go hungry, and the charge will be added to the student's school meal account.
