There are about 450 students on campus, and the student-teacher ratio is about 17.8 to 1. According to recent state test data, about 43% of students at Somerset Pines are proficient in maths or better. The state average for Florida is about 52%. About 53% of students are good at reading, which is a little higher than the state average. There are a lot of different kinds of students, with about 49% Hispanic and 38% Black.
About 76% of them qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, which shows that the families served have a lot of financial needs. For families looking to move into the area, three-bedroom rentals in Pompano Beach typically cost between US $2,100 and US $3,300 per month, depending on where they are and how well they are kept. Being Updated
In early 2025, Somerset Pines Academy introduced a “Growth Mindset Wednesdays” program where teachers dedicate one class period each week to collaborative problem-solving and goal-setting, aimed at boosting student agency and academic resilience.
1. What makes Somerset Pines Academy different from a regular public elementary school?
A. Somerset Pines is a charter school offering a K–8 structure (rather than separate elementary and middle schools). This helps reduce transitions for students, and the charter model may offer more flexibility in enrichment programming or curriculum pacing.
2. How strong are the math supports available for students at Somerset Pines?
A. Given that only around 43% of students are proficient in math, below the state average, families should ask about the school’s math intervention plan, tutoring opportunities, enrichment clusters, and how progress is monitored for students who are behind.
3. What is the demographic and socio-economic profile of the student body and how might that impact resources?
A. With roughly three-quarters of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, the school serves many families facing economic challenges. While that can drive strong support programs, it may also mean higher needs for wrap-around services and potentially additional out-of-school resources from families.
4. What are the benefits and challenges of the K-8 model at Somerset Pines?
A. A K–8 model means students can stay on a single campus through middle grades, which can offer continuity and fewer transitions. On the other hand, middle grade programming (grades 6-8) might not always match the specialized depth of a dedicated middle school, so families may want to evaluate how well the school supports its older students academically and socially.
5. If moving into the zone, what should families know about the housing rental market?
A. Rental listings for three-bedroom homes in the Pompano Beach area suggest a range from about US $2,100 to US $3,300 per month. Families should check current listings, consider factors like commute, condition and proximity to campus, and factor this into their overall budget when choosing the school zone.
