Being Updated
In mid-2025, Cypress Elementary launched a new “Math Mentors” initiative pairing older student volunteers with younger classmates in weekly math problem-solving circles to boost engagement and confidence in mathematics.
1. What special programs does Cypress Elementary offer beyond the regular curriculum?
A. Cypress offers enrichment clusters and small-group intervention programs, including after-school homework help and themed clubs (e.g., STEM and reading) designed to support students who may need additional help.
2. How does the school support families and parent engagement?
A. The school hosts a monthly Family Engagement Night where parents meet with teachers, review student progress reports, and attend workshops on supporting literacy and math at home. Parent volunteers are also invited into classrooms and reading events.
3. What are key demographic and resource characteristics of the campus?
A. Cypress serves a diverse student population (about 48% Black, 43% Hispanic) and a high proportion of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds (roughly two-thirds eligible for free or reduced lunch). These factors often lead to additional school support programs but also suggest families may want to consider supplemental tutoring if aiming for higher proficiency gains.
4. Which middle school do Cypress graduates attend, and why does this matter?
A. Graduates from Cypress typically move on to Pompano Beach Middle School and then to Blanche Ely High School. Understanding this pipeline is important because early proficiency in core subjects like math shapes preparedness for the next levels and influences elective and advanced course placement later on.
5. What should families know about rental housing in the Cypress Elementary zone?
A. For three-bedroom homes or apartments near Cypress Elementary, current listings show a range from about US $2,000 up to over US $3,300 per month. The condition, age of the unit, proximity to amenities, and neighborhood will impact cost — families should budget accordingly and inspect homes carefully when relocating for school access.
