Being Updated
Windy Ridge K-8 continues operating as one of OCPS's highest-ranked K-8 campuses in Florida, with a ranking in the top 10% of Florida middle schools — a distinction that reflects the school's consistent academic performance across both elementary and middle grade levels. The school is participating in OCPS's "Let's Read!" challenge for the spring semester and has its two counselors active across all grade levels throughout the school year. With over 1,100 students on campus, Windy Ridge K-8 is among the larger OCPS K-8 campuses in the district, and its parent community benefits from one of the most comprehensive sets of academic programs available at a single OCPS campus.
Q1. What is the advantage of Windy Ridge K-8's grade span?
Ans. Windy Ridge K-8 runs from Pre-K through eighth grade, which means students who enroll in kindergarten can stay on the same campus through middle school without changing schools. For many families, that continuity is one of the school's most practical draws — students build long-term relationships with teachers and peers across nine years, which can make both the academic and social transitions between grade levels smoother.
Q2. Does Windy Ridge K-8 offer a GATE program?
Ans. Windy Ridge K-8 does run a Gifted and Talented Education program through Orange County Public Schools. With two full-time school counselors on staff and a strong academic standing in Florida statewide rankings, the GT program has consistent support. Families should speak with the classroom teacher to initiate the referral process.
Q3. What after-school programs does Windy Ridge K-8 offer?
Ans. Windy Ridge K-8 participates in OCPS after-school and extended learning programs. Given the school's large enrollment of over 1,100 students, families are encouraged to inquire early in the school year to check on program availability. The front office at (407) 317-3200 can confirm current options and waitlist status.
Q4. How does Windy Ridge K-8 communicate with families?
Ans. Windy Ridge K-8 uses ParentSquare as its primary family communication platform. Families of middle school students also benefit from the Skyward Family Access portal for grades and academic records. The school's two counselors are available throughout the year to support students at all grade levels, from the earliest elementary years through eighth grade.
Q5. What high school do Windy Ridge K-8 students attend after eighth grade?
Ans. Students completing eighth grade at Windy Ridge K-8 typically continue to Dr. Phillips High School or another OCPS high school serving the west Orlando corridor.
