Being Updated
Vista Lakes Elementary participated in OCPS's 5th Annual School Spirit Run and continues its involvement in the district's "Let's Read!" challenge running through the spring semester. The school's website confirms an active calendar of community events for the current school year. All Vista Lakes Elementary students benefit from OCPS's free meals initiative, and the school remains an active participant in the district's parent engagement programming, including its ESE Parent Survey campaign for families of students with exceptionalities.
Q1. Does Vista Lakes Elementary offer a GATE program?
Ans. Vista Lakes Elementary does offer a Gifted and Talented Education program through Orange County Public Schools. The school's strong proficiency rates in both math and reading reflect a campus where academic rigor is a consistent priority. If you believe your child may qualify for GATE, the classroom teacher is the right starting point for the referral process.
Q2. What makes the Vista Lakes community unique for families?
Ans. Vista Lakes Elementary is at the center of the Vista Lakes planned community, a residential area built around a series of lakes with walking paths and parks nearby. Many families at the school live within the planned community itself, which creates a tight-knit neighborhood culture that carries over into parent involvement and school events throughout the year.
Q3. How does Vista Lakes Elementary communicate with families?
Ans. Vista Lakes Elementary uses ParentSquare for announcements, event updates, and direct messaging between teachers and families. The school's website at vistalakeses.ocps.net is also updated regularly. The front office is reachable during school hours for any day-to-day questions.
Q4. What after-school programs does Vista Lakes Elementary offer?
Ans. Vista Lakes Elementary participates in OCPS after-school extended learning programs. The school also keeps regular contact with families through ParentSquare, where program updates and enrollment windows are typically announced.
Q5. What middle school do Vista Lakes Elementary students attend?
Ans. Students completing fifth grade at Vista Lakes Elementary typically continue to South Creek Middle School, then on to Cypress Creek High School.
