Sunshine Elementary is participating in OCPS's district-wide "Let's Read!" challenge, contributing to the goal of encouraging students to read well beyond standard classroom assignments. The school's principal recently welcomed families to the current school year with a message emphasizing student empowerment and the importance of community partnerships.
Q1. Does Sunshine Elementary offer a GATE program?
Ans. Sunshine Elementary does offer a Gifted and Talented Education program through Orange County Public Schools. Families interested in having their child considered should speak with their classroom teacher or contact the school at (407) 778-3850 to find out when the OCPS evaluation cycle opens each school year.
Q2. What ELD support does Sunshine Elementary provide?
Ans. Sunshine Elementary has a multilingual student population reflecting the diversity of the International Drive corridor, and English Language Development instruction is embedded across all grade levels. The school's ELD program is a core part of how teachers deliver academics rather than a separate class, and an English Learner Advisory Committee is available for families who want to be more involved in shaping the program.

Ans. Students who graduate fifth grade at Sunshine Elementary generally go on to Southwest Middle School and then to Dr. Phillips High School or Freedom High School, depending on where they live.
