Being Updated
Sunrise Elementary continues to maintain its position among Orange County's strongest-performing elementary campuses on state assessments, a standing recognized by the OCPS district during annual educator recognition events. The school participates in the OCPS "Let's Read!" reading challenge and the district's 5th Annual School Spirit Run, both of which bring Sunrise families together around shared academic and community goals. All OCPS students at Sunrise Elementary receive free meals throughout the school year, a district-wide benefit that removes a barrier many families otherwise navigate.
Q1. Does Sunrise Elementary offer a GATE program?
Ans. Sunrise Elementary does offer a Gifted and Talented Education program through Orange County Public Schools. The school's strong academic performance makes it an active GATE campus. Families interested in having their child evaluated should speak with the classroom teacher or contact the school at (407) 249-6400 to learn about the referral cycle.
Q2. What types of enrichment does Sunrise Elementary provide?
Ans. Sunrise Elementary offers enrichment opportunities through OCPS district programs, including fine arts, physical education, and academic competitions. The school also participates in OCPS's district-wide "Let's Read, OCPS!" reading challenge, which runs throughout the spring semester and encourages students to read for enjoyment beyond standard classroom assignments.
Q3. How does Sunrise Elementary support English Language Learners?
Ans. Sunrise Elementary provides English Language Development instruction as part of the regular school day across all grade levels. ELD support runs alongside core academic instruction, and the school has ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) meetings for families of multilingual learners who want a direct role in shaping language programs at the campus.
Q4. What community events does Sunrise Elementary participate in?
Ans. Sunrise Elementary participates in OCPS district-wide community events, including the annual School Spirit Run. The school uses ParentSquare to keep families informed about upcoming activities. Parent engagement is a consistent priority at Sunrise, and the school holds regular family nights throughout the year.
Q5. What is the feeder pattern after Sunrise Elementary?
Ans. Students finishing fifth grade at Sunrise Elementary typically continue to Discovery Middle School, then on to Timber Creek High School. All three schools are within Orange County Public Schools, providing Sunrise families with a clear and familiar academic pathway through graduation.
