Being Updated
The Pirates at Pinar Elementary kicked off the current school year with its annual community event and started planning the 5th Annual School Spirit Run, set for February 7, 2026 — an event that brings the full school community together for a campus-wide fundraiser. The school also participates in OCPS's district-wide "Let's Read, OCPS!" reading challenge, which runs from January 26 through April 30, 2026, with a goal of reaching 50 million minutes of student reading across the district. Pinar's Battle of the Books club is active this semester, with students reading Sunshine State Young Readers Award titles weekly and preparing for spring competition.
Q1. Does Pinar Elementary offer a GATE program?
Ans. Pinar Elementary does have a Gifted and Talented program through Orange County Public Schools. If you think your child might qualify, the first step is talking to their classroom teacher. The referral cycle opens in the fall, so earlier is better.
Q2. What clubs does Pinar Elementary offer students?
Ans. Pinar Elementary runs a STEM Club, a school garden, and the Battle of the Books Club. Battle of the Books meets weekly to read Sunshine State Young Readers Award books and then compete in a district-wide team competition each spring. It's open to 3rd through 5th graders.
Q3. How can families get involved at Pinar Elementary?
Ans. Pinar Elementary has both a School Advisory Council and an active PTA. Families are encouraged to join either and participate in school events throughout the year. The front office at (407) 249-6380 is the best starting point.
Q4. How does Pinar Elementary communicate with families?
Ans. Pinar Elementary uses ParentSquare for school-wide communication. It handles everything from daily announcements to teacher messages. Getting the app set up before the first week of school is the easiest way to stay connected.
Q5. What middle school do Pinar Elementary students attend?
Ans. Students finishing 5th grade at Pinar Elementary typically continue to a nearby OCPS middle school based on their home address. OCPS is the fourth-largest school district in Florida.
