Being Updated
Millennia Elementary kicked off the current school year under Principal Christopher Gomes with a renewed focus on HOPS values and the school's status as a digital pilot institution within OCPS. Students at the Kangaroo campus continued participating in the district-wide Let's Read reading challenge running through April. The school also joined OCPS's Black History Month "Still I Rise" celebration and kept families engaged through ParentSquare. The school's Beanstack reading program continues to motivate students to build reading habits through a points-based incentive system that has been part of the campus culture since the digital pilot designation was introduced.
Q1. What technology resources does Millennia Elementary offer students?
Ans. Millennia Elementary operates as a digital pilot school through Orange County Public Schools, which means every student has access to a personal device for learning. Students at Millennia Elementary use technology to access instructional content, engage in research-based projects, and explore real-world problems, going beyond traditional textbook learning from the earliest grades.
Q2. Who is the current principal of Millennia Elementary?
Ans. Millennia Elementary is led by Principal Christopher Gomes, also known as DJ Gomes, who opened the current school year with an enthusiastic message to Kangaroo families about nurturing curious minds and confident learners. He frames the school year around the HOPS values and describes his goal as helping every student leap into the future with courage and creativity.
Q3. What does HOPS stand for at Millennia Elementary?
Ans. HOPS is Millennia Elementary's school-wide values framework. The acronym stands for the four expectations the Kangaroo community lives by daily. The framework guides how students and staff interact across classrooms, hallways, and school events throughout the year.
Q4. Does Millennia Elementary have a GATE program?
Ans. Millennia Elementary does offer a Gifted and Talented program through Orange County Public Schools. Families who believe their child may qualify should speak with the classroom teacher to start the referral process. The evaluation cycle opens in the fall, and it's worth initiating the conversation before the cycle closes.
Q5. What middle school do Millennia Elementary students attend?
Ans. Millennia Elementary students typically continue to an OCPS middle school serving the Cypress Creek Boulevard corridor, then on to an OCPS high school. Families should confirm the current feeder assignment with OCPS enrollment, as zone boundaries can shift year to year.
