Being Updated
Dover Shores Elementary held its 5th Annual School Spirit Run this spring, bringing the full school community together for a celebration that has become a campus tradition. The school is also participating in the district-wide "Let's Read, OCPS!" reading challenge, which encourages students to contribute to a district-wide reading goal through independent reading at home and at school. With a principal now in their third year and a staff that includes multiple former students of the school, Dover Shores carries one of the most distinct community identities of any neighborhood elementary in Orange County.
Q1. What makes Dover Shores Elementary unusual compared to other Orlando schools?
Ans. Dover Shores Elementary has a rare multi-generational community — many current staff members are former students themselves, and it's common to find children of previous Dover Shores students enrolled today. That kind of institutional history creates a school culture that feels genuinely different from newer campuses.
Q2. Does Dover Shores Elementary have a gifted program?
Ans. Dover Shores Elementary offers a Gifted and Talented program through Orange County Public Schools. The school has a school counselor on campus alongside a dedicated teaching staff. To start the GATE referral process, speak with your child's classroom teacher or call (407) 249-6330.
Q3. What community events does Dover Shores Elementary host?
Ans. Dover Shores Elementary holds an annual School Spirit Run that draws the full school community together each spring. The school also participates in the OCPS district-wide "Let's Read, OCPS!" reading challenge, which encourages students to read for enjoyment and build lifelong reading habits. Check the school's site or ParentSquare for upcoming events.
Q4. How does Dover Shores Elementary stay connected with families?
Ans. Dover Shores Elementary uses ParentSquare to talk to parents and has an active social media presence where it shares photos and news from school events.
Q5. What middle school do Dover Shores Elementary students attend?
Ans. Students from Dover Shores Elementary typically continue to Conway Middle School and then to Colonial High School. Both are within Orange County Public Schools and serve the Conway and Dover Shores corridor through the high school years.
