Socrum Elementary School is part of the Polk County Public Schools district and is situated at 9400 Old Dade City Road in Lakeland, Florida. It serves children in grades Pre-K through 5. The latest numbers reveal that there are about 16.6 students for every instructor. It is thought that just about 36% of students at Socrum are good at maths, which is much lower than the Florida average of roughly 52%. This tendency is also shown in reading skills, where about 35% of children reach the benchmarks for competency. The school has a mix of students: roughly 46% are White, 31% are Hispanic, and 19% are Black or African American. About 77% of children can get free or reduced-price meals, which shows that the school has a lot of needs. Most students who graduate from Socrum go on to Lake Gibson Senior High School.
Some of its famous alumni are NFL running back Eric Kelce and Olympic track athlete Conte Candee (Class of 2010). If you're thinking about renting a house in the area, three-bedroom rentals in the Lakeland area usually cost between $1,600 and $2,400 per month, depending on where it is and how well it is kept. Socrum has reasonable class numbers and a sense of community, but its academic performance levels suggest that families who want their kids to do well in maths and reading may wish to look into enrichment programs or compare campuses nearby that do better.
New Playground Name
We are so excited to announce the name of our new playground! Following a school-wide and Robinson community vote we narrowed a large list of names down to four. Since our students will be using the playground on a daily basis, we gave them the final vote! 476.....

Being Updated
In spring 2025, Socrum Elementary launched a “Marathon Minders” initiative where students complete 26.2 miles of team-walk/run events over six weeks, partnered with local businesses to encourage wellness and academic endurance.
1. What intervention programs are in place for students who are behind?
A. Socrum offers after-school “Homework Hub” sessions, morning math warm-ups and summer bridge programmes; families should ask about how students are identified for these supports.
2. How does the school support multilingual learners and family engagement?
A. With over 30% Hispanic population and high mobility rates, the school provides ESOL-certified staff, bilingual parent meetings and translation services for home-school communication.
3. What is the school's attendance and mobility situation?
A. Chronic absenteeism has been reported above 30% in recent years, which can disrupt learning continuity; parents should inquire how the school addresses attendance and transitions.
4. What enrichment or extracurricular options exist beyond core academics?
A. Students can join a robotics club, participate in reading buddy programmes, and engage in community-service projects led by older-grade student mentors.
5. What should families consider about housing if relocating into this zone?
A. Three-bedroom rentals in the area typically range from US $1,600–2,400/month; families should also assess commute time, property condition, and budget for any additional academic support given the school’s current proficiency levels.
