Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Board Member Roberto J. Alonso hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at West Lakes Preparatory Academy on March 7, 2025,to launch the final phase of a $34.5 million renovation project.

The plans involve 12 new middle school classrooms and labs, a stand-alone cafeteria with service areas, a cafetorium stage with lighting and sound system, renovated PE locker rooms, and resurfaced basketball courts.
