Palm Terrace Elementary School recently concluded a school-wide “Kindness Initiative” where students were given “Positive Palms” for demonstrating extra empathy and helpfulness towards their fellow students each day. The campus has successfully launched its new “Urban Garden Project,” giving students a hands-on space to study local botany and the importance of sustainable food sources. The school was also regionally recognized for its strong after-school enrichment programs in choral music and traditional dance.
Q1. How is the “Buddy Reading” program at Palm Terrace El. foster a culture of support at the school?
Ans. Older students meet weekly with younger “reading buddies” to help develop literacy skills and meaningful friendships across campus.
Q2. What wellness activities are included in Palm Terrace El’s daily schedule?
Ans. The day begins with quiet reflection or stretching to help students get centred and ready to learn.
Q3. Do students at Palm Terrace El get to learn about urban farming in a community garden?
Ans. Yes, the students do get to plant and harvest vegetables and learn first hand about biology and the importance of healthy sustainable food sources.
Q4. How does Palm Terrace El get local professionals to come in to participate in its student career exploration days?
Ans. We encourage all kinds of professionals to come into our classrooms to tell stories about their work and inspire students about their futures.
Q5. May parents volunteer in the classroom or on field trips outside of Palm Terrace El?
Ans. We strongly encourage parents to do a background check in order to join us for special events and excursions.
