Santa Maria, California, is a mid-sized coastal town with about 110,000 to 112,000 people. It has a strong agricultural heritage and many different cultures. The Santa Maria-Bonita School District runs most of the elementary schools in the area. There are about 17 public elementary schools in the district, and about 90% of the students are from minority groups, mostly Hispanic. Some campuses also offer programs for gifted and talented students. Santa Marias elementary schools offer a supportive, culturally rich environment for young learners. This is because they involve the community a lot, have family-friendly neighborhoods, and work with local businesses. Many schools are also working to meet higher academic standards.
