We are so excited to announce the name of our new playground! Following a school-wide and Robinson community vote we narrowed a large list of names down to four. Since our students will be using the playground on a daily basis, we gave them the final vote! 476.....

Being Updated
San Fernando Elementary held active ELAC and SSC parent meetings throughout the fall and winter of 2025-26, with both committees meeting monthly and offering Zoom participation for families who can't come to campus. The school's Two-Way Spanish Dual Immersion program continues to be one of only two dual language programs at LAUSD elementary schools in the City of San Fernando — alongside Vista del Valle — making it a distinctive program in the area. Under Principal Karin Aguilar, the campus is one of the oldest public elementary schools in the city, established in 1915.
Q1. How does San Fernando Elementary's Two-Way Dual Immersion program work in practice?
Ans. At San Fernando Elementary, the Two-Way Spanish Dual Immersion program brings together Spanish-speaking and English-speaking students in a shared classroom. Instruction unfolds in both languages, every day, all day. This approach allows students to develop literacy and academic abilities in both English and Spanish at the same time. The program aims to help both groups: English speakers become fluent in Spanish, while Spanish speakers improve their English skills, beginning in kindergarten.
Q2. Do you have to live in San Fernando Elementary's attendance zone to apply for the Dual Immersion program?
Ans. Families interested in the Dual Immersion program at San Fernando Elementary should contact the school. You can reach them at (818) 365-3201; they'll be happy to explain the application process.
It's worth noting that LAUSD's dual immersion programs occasionally admit students from outside the immediate area. This is contingent on available space and the goal of maintaining a balanced program.
Q3. What parent involvement opportunities exist at San Fernando Elementary?
Ans. San Fernando Elementary holds monthly ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) meetings and monthly SSC (School Site Council) meetings. Both are open to parents, and both meet in the Parent Center on campus. These meetings run throughout the school year and give families a direct voice in school planning and decision-making.
Q4. Does San Fernando Elementary have a GATE program?
Ans. Yes, San Fernando Elementary does have a Gifted and Talented Education program. The GATE program utilizes the LAUSD's district-wide referral and assessment procedures.
Families who believe their child may qualify should reach out to the school office or the child's classroom teacher to start the conversation.
Q5. What is the feeder pattern for San Fernando Elementary students?
Ans. San Fernando Elementary students generally move on to San Fernando Middle School after 5th grade, and then to San Fernando Senior High School. Both schools are close to the elementary campus and part of the same LAUSD San Fernando/Sylmar Community of Schools cluster.
