Desert Shadows Elementary, located within the Paradise Valley Unified School District, currently has enrollment totaling about 479 students in student grade levels Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6. The number of full time staff is approximately 35 staff, resulting in a student to teacher ratio of approximately 13-14 students to 1 teacher, which is higher than the average in Arizona. In terms of academic progress - approximately 63% of students are math proficient, and approximately 68% of students are reading/ELA proficient, which is significantly better than Arizona averages.
Minority enrollment comprises approximately 31% of students; approximately 15% of students are considered economically disadvantaged. Scottsdale area have median sale prices in the range of $770,000-$800,000, which is indicative of housing that is higher in cost. Annually, Desert Shadows Elementary appears in the lists of top 10 schools among public elementary schools, and is even included in conversations discussing which are considered to be the best public elementary schools in the state of Arizona
