Mountain Gap Elementary is ranked #11 among Huntsville City Elementary Schools and has 324 students in PK–5. Of these, 29% are classified as minority learners and 40% are classified as economically disadvantaged. The school has a low teacher-student ratio of 17:1 and employs 19 full-time teachers to serve its students and families. In regard to academic achievement, the school is seeing successful outcomes. Sixty-two percent of students are proficient in reading, and 32% are proficient in math. Although the school has no full-time counselors, Mountain Gap Elementary is supportive and inviting. It encourages students to be curious and engaged.
