Jackson-Olin High School recently updated its Culinary Arts kitchen with professional-grade tools to help students get ready for jobs in the hospitality industry. The school is also starting a peer-leadership program that will help upperclassmen and incoming freshmen become mentors for each other. The Mustangs have had some recent success in sports, with a number of track and field members qualifying for state-level meets.
Q1. What kinds of special training does Jackson-Olin High School offer?
Ans. The school has an Academy of Health Sciences where students learn the basics of medical careers.
Q2. Can students at school take the ACT?
Ans. Yes, the ACT is available to school students during the school day as part of the district's college readiness program.
Q3. What clubs can students join outside of school?
Ans. School kids can follow their academic interests in a number of ways, from debate to robotics.
Q4. What does the school do to help students get ready for jobs?
Ans. Dual enrollment lets high school students earn college credits while still meeting their high school requirements.
Q5. Are the arts given a lot of attention?
Ans. Students in the Birmingham City Schools district can show off their creative skills through visual arts and choir programs.
